19 doctors from Shanghai worked in the mountainous areas in Guizhou for 11 years. They rescued the dying and healed the wounded, curing thousands of patients. During the construction of the Hunan-Guizhou railway, Shanghai medical team deployed one-third of its team members to take care of the construction personnel. They were also invited to attend the ceremony in memory of the 20th anniversary of the National Day in Beijing.
