In the 1960s and 1970s, families in Shanghai were short of bathroom facilities. Qu Qunying still remebers bathing in the bedroom after boiling water in kitchen. Zhai Jianmin still remembers designing shower facilities with local methods. Bath hoods, wooden basins and infrared gas stoves are still deeply rooted in the minds of many Shanghainese.
