In 1959, Shanghai people held rallies and parades in the People's Square to celebrate the International Labor Day. The leaders of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government also took part in the celebrations with Cao Diqiu delivering a speech. There are scenes of salutes, chanting and letting go of the balloons as well as spectators’ watching and waving to the parade and floats composed of people from all walks of life.
